2016 was an average year music wise with not many great songs to choose from. A.R.Rahman was at his standard 2 albums a year, Anirudh was much out of sorts and D.Imman was churning out albums like an assembly line(think he had 11-12 releases this year). Harris Jayaraj is still searching for his missing omakaziya and Santhosh Narayanan is moving further away from his brand of music with his recent releases(read Bairavaa). There were some bright sparks though coming in from young upcoming composers like Nivas K. Prasanna, Leon James, Sean Roldan and K. So here goes my best 10 of 2016, songs that I loved and listened to on repeat this whole year.
One day and 3 very good film trailers.
Firstly, Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider. In it’s own very dark way looks like a VB classic already(only VB can get the best out of Shahid Kapoor, remember Kaminey). Cannot wait for it!
Second, Homi Adajania’s Finding Fanny. Love it for the fact that it is being made in English and the casting seems to be perfect. Only time would tell, but if it lives up to what the trailer shows it to be, we are in for a rollicking ride.
Third, Ridley Scott’s Exodus: God’s & Kings. RS is bringing us another period war film after Gladiator. The visuals look stunning and epic. Watch for yourselves;
Looks like we are in for a treat in the coming days.
So, finally a Rajnikanth movie has released after 3 long years of waiting and delays one after the other. After watching the trailer, the animation looked pretty sub-standard, but the final product as a movie is not all that bad. It is definitely better than what I had expected it to be.
So, ill give you 5 reasons why you should definitely watch Kochadaiyan;
1. Rajnikanth as RANA
2. Rajnikanth as KOCHADAIYAAN
3. “SUPERSTAR” Rajnikanth
4. A.R. Rahman for a brilliant background score. The music absolutely holds the movie together
5. K.S.Ravikumar for a wonderful story line, script and screenplay. The dialogue writer too deserves a kudos for some crisp lines.
Pretty much everything a thalaivar fan can ask for. Perfect paisa vasool. My only disappointment is that this made into an animated(read as motion capture) film and not made into a feature film. Would have been a staggering blockbuster. Hopefully the second part(if it is made) would have much better graphics(read again as motion capture) than the first.
Kochadaiyaan-Treat for Rajni fans. Not a bad watch otherwise too if you are willing to forgive the animation.
What could have been a superb movie has been reduced to an average watch due to a botched up storyline. The graphics are pretty awesome and the background score by Alexandre Desplat keeps the tensions high. Wish Bryan Cranston had more screen time. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, welcome to the big league. The movie was pretty slow paced and once we get a glimpse of the king of monsters it speeds up. And the climax scenes were pretty EPIC! I had a pretty awesome time in the theatre watching this film mainly because I had seats vibrating to the sound effects. Awesome-sauce it was!
GODZILLA: Watch it in theaters for the effects. The king of monsters will not disappoint you!
*There may be spoilers in this post, so read it at your own peril if you still haven’t watched the film*
Some movies are so melodramatic that they make you cry, some movies just entertain, some makes you introspect and then there’s QUEEN. No unwanted melodrama, no unwanted item songs, just crisp and fresh storytelling. QUEEN is one of those rare gems in Indian cinema that is totally heroine centric. When all directors and actors are running behind record openings & boasting about their business in C’s, Queen is a fresh whiff of change. Hats off to Vikas Bahl for that and all the makers that backed him for this project. Continue reading
So starting from where I had left off in my earlier post, I have been in the Philippines now for just over 2 months now. For me personally, when I first arrived here and came out of the airport, there was already a mild OMG! This is so much like India feel. That feel escalated more and more as I was driven to my place of stay in Paranaque(a city in Metro Manila).
In these two months, there’s been a lot of travel in and around Manila, Batangas, Makati, Sta. Rosa and also a couple of trips made to Subic mainly for customer visits. I’ve got to admit that the Philippines has the most picturesque countryside settings with the mountains forming a beautiful landscape.
These were some of the pictures that i had taken during my trips and I believe that they speak for themselves. This is just a part of the adventure and i have just begun to explore the country. There are about 7107 islands in the Philippines and most of them have beautiful landscapes and beaches. There is a lot of time to explore the country which I will. For now this is all I have for you. More to follow later. Till then Cheerio 🙂
My cousin got married today morning. I would like to wish the couple a very happy married life!
Dear Aarthi & Praveenkumar,
May both of you find health, happiness and I wish you many years of unbreakable love and laughter. To love and be loved is the pinnacle of happiness and riches. May you never lose sight of this precious treasure in all your days together.Congratulations!
I’m still kicking myself at not being able to make it to your wedding. Looking at the pictures, seeing smiles on the faces of everyone, it seems to me that I have missed a whole lot of fun and being together as a family. I’m sorry I was not able to make it today, but hopefully we shall meet soon. God bless!
Loads of love & wishes,
