AADHAVAN-Movie Review

Aadhavan (2)STARRING: SURYA, NAYANTHARA, VADIVELU, MURALI, SAROJA DEVI, ANU HASSAN

DIRECTOR: K.S.RAVIKUMAR

MUSIC: HARRIS JEYARAJ

RATING: bw-star-2

Well not exactly where i wanted to see it but then in KUWAIT only once in a blue moon a tamil movie releases and being DIWALI caught up Aadhavan at Ajial cinemas. Coming to the point, when the name SURYA flashed with so much buildup, you tend to feel ivarukku ivlo buildup ah!!! and this movie proves just that. Tiresome watch this movie AADHAVAN running at 3h15m. Real disappointed that KSR has given such crap. I will SAY that VADIVELU is the only saving grace for this movie. He just rocks. Saroja Devi is wasted & so are so many talented people in this movie. Nayanthara has done her bit. ANU HASSAN & MURALI(Late) have sparkled in their respective roles esp. Anu Hassan even though she comes for 10 minutes.

The graphics is a big letdown. The starting 20 mins you’ll surely twitch in your seats. A hats off for the team for tryin to do something different by making Surya act as 10 year old but sorry the output is downright FUNNY rather than applaudible. Surya tries to be others when he himself can bring on so much charisma onscreen. Doing this he has spoilt all the hard work he had done for his past movies. Surya has overacted in many parts and the fights are too exaggerated & proves he can also fly without wings(Remember KURUVI) by jumping from one building to another in a way that even SPIDEY will be jealous. He was a charmer in the songs and Nayanthara has done her part well in whatever scope there was for her to perform. AnandBabu(Son of the Late.Nagesh) has done a decent job considering its his comeback ticket. The rest of the croud, sorry cast come in droves that it is really hard to remember each one of them. Ramesh Khanna, the story writer needs to think bigtime to come up with a proper story. Sorry sir, this story can hardly be called one, it can be called TORTURE!!!

Songs are a treat to watch. Yeno Yeno and Hasili Fisili are picturised really well. Vaaraayo Vaaraayo is differently well picturised. Maasi Maasi might get more listeners after picturisation, but it was not at all needed considering the length of the movie. A RAP bit that comes about the father is GOOD. Other than that the background score is a big letdown Mr.Harris. KSR & the producer UDHAYANIDHI come at the end and multiply the tiredness u already have. And they say UDHAYANIDHI is comin to tinsel town as a HERO(GOD save the people).

1st Half- Torture initially then VADIVELU, VADIVELU, VADIVELU.

2nd Half- Some TWISTS!!!(only some) and then TORTURE!!!

2 stars only for VADIVELU

AADHAVAN- SARAKKU ILLADHAVAN!!! Watch at your own RISK!!!

AEGAN-Music Review

MUSIC : YUVAN SHANKAR RAJA

LYRICS : SNEHAN, PA.VIJAY

RATING :

The deadly combo of Ajith-Yuvan is back with AEGAN after their blockbuster BILLA and are bang on target when it comes to the music. Yuvan is on a high after back to back musical hits and is brimming with confidence which is purely visible with the music of AEGAN. This one is surely gonna rock.

Hey Salaa (Blaaze, Naresh Iyer, Md.Aslam)

A song that is gonna be hummed by thousands of THALA fans all over the world. The lyrics just portray that and Blaaze with his amazing rap is taking this song to the top of the charts. Naresh and Aslam do their bit in this rap oriented track with a beautiful flute piece interlude that pleases the listeners. This song has been split up into 3 numbers for caller tunes and is repeated in the original audio CD. A chartbuster for sure.

Yahoo Yahoo (Suvi, Ujjaini, Satyan, Ranjith & Naveen)

A Youth oriented track with wonderful beats by Yuvan. Reminds the fun at the college. A peppy number with all the right ingredients to keep it playing in the hearts of youngsters. Wonderful music and renditions by all the singers(Quite a few). Yet another youth anthem from Yuvan.

Hey Baby (Shankar Mahadevan)

A superb love number sung wonderfully by shankar Mahadevan. The Salsa feel to the song works out really well. “Mallika i love u” is the chant that is gonna haunt all the lovers out there. Nice song with the right mix of instruments. Sticks to you on the first hearing.

Odum Varayil (K.K, Bela Shende)

A typical mass hero song. The lyrics fits in just perfect and is ready to make all Thala fans go haywire when he appears on screen for this song. K.K, back after a long stint does great work of what is bestowed upon him. The voice of Bela Shende requires some fine tuning. An anthem for all THALA fans.

Kichu Kichu (Vasundhara Dass, Yuvan Shankar Raja)

A sensuous number. Just imagine Nayanthara dancing to these tunes. Vasundhara Dass does a neat job with the feel and rendition. Amother song from Yuvan with heavy beats. Yuvan is at his best when he sings a line or two in this number. A song that is gonna leave many with sleepless nights drooling over Nayan.

Rajster’s Top 3 of the Album:

  1. Hey Baby.
  2. Hey Salaa.
  3. Kichu Kichu.

Rajster’s Verdict:

A real winner with the masses. This album has it all in the right mixes to set the cash registers ringing and also capturing hearts of millions of Thala fans throughout the world. Yet another winner from Yuvan-Ajith Combo.

Aegan-Eh Salaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

KUSELAN-MOVIE REVIEW

Star Cast: Rajnikanth, Pasupathy, Meena, Vadivelu, Nayanthara, Livingston, Prabhu.

Rating:

If there was ever a movie that i felt that i was robbed of my ticket money, it must be Kuselan for sure. Except a heart warming climax, the movie had absolutely nothing to boast about. Remade from the Malayalam super hit movie “Katha Parayumbol” this movie is rendered a weak storyline by P.Vasu the director of the movie. Halfway into the movie u find it hard to sit in the cinema hall.

The storyline revolves around a simple thread “A Tribute to Friendship”. Balakrishnan(Pasupathy) alias Balu is a barber in a small village. He is so poor that he could not make ends meet even for a days meal. He is a really honest man and refrains from the bad ways of promoting his job like his ex-worker Shanmugam (Vadivelu). News comes that Ashok Kumar(Rajnikanth) ,the  Superstar of tinsel town is shooting in their village for a movie. Everybody comes to know that Balu is a yesteryear friend of the Superstar and wants to catch a glimpse of him through Balu. Everybody including Balu tries in vain to get close to the Superstar and at a point of time the villagers feel Balu is cheated them by lying.

The whole movie pretty much progresses like this until the climax. Superstar Ashok kumar is invited to a 25th annual school day function where he reveals(out of the blue) about how he became a superstar and his best friend Balakrishnan. Pasupathy and Meena fit the bill to a tee, although Meena never looked like a poor mans wife(thanks to the costumes and makeup). Vadivelu is good in parts(but were those vulgar jokes needed!!!) and is becoming too stereotypical. The pick of the comedians are Livingston(Mudhalali) and Group who are behind the Superstar for some sheet(Callsheet!!!lLOL). Nayanthara plays herself and also gets to dance in a two piece for a song which was in no way related to the story. The Movie ends with the Superstar Ashok Kumar ending up at the house of his friend and finally says that his friend should stay with him.

If P.Vasu was in full throttle giving us “Chandramukhi”, he is in no form whatsoever in “Kuselan”. Inspired by the original version he has roped in Rajnikanth and has cooked up a story with punch lines and dialogues suitable to potray Rajnikanth as a Superstar that doen not fit the theme and is weak. The first and second half are a drag except for the climax and some enjoyable comedy by Livingston and Co. The Cinema Cinema song shows its a dedication to the film industry, but then why it shows only the superstar again and again(the picturisation could have been loads better). And Rajnikanth coming in different costumes…Ah!!!Enough of these childish stuff. The music as such is weak and even the BGM’s have the i heard it before effect to it. P.Vasu shows Rajni(Ashok Kumar) in the village to shoot movies but then he shoots Annamalai-2, Chandramukhi-2 and it goes on(How many movies does the superstar act at once!!!makes one wonder). And Prabhu as the head Police officer looks painstakingly obese!!!(can’t tell when he might explode). Looks like P.Vasu was not even confident of the script that he made nayan to dance in a 2 piece which he thought would pull in the crowds to the theatre. And Rajnikanth as superstar can only act like one. Although his explanations about politics and dialogues are good even he could not save the film. And all throughout the film(even the songs) potray Superstar too much and makes u sick!!!. The only saving grace in the movie is by Pasupathy and the tearful climax otherwise i dunno what prompted P.Vasu to make such a movie.

As Rajnikanth says in the movie “Even a Superstar cannot save a movie if it has a bad storyline, the people are not fools to make it run“. Mayb i thought Rajnikanth watched this movie before rendering that dialogue. I thought of giving it 1star but the credit for the climax gets the extra star (Thank God!!! P.Vasu didnt change that atleast).

Kuselan-Yawn!!!!

SATHYAM-Music Review

MUSIC: HARRIS JEYARAJ

LYRICS: PA.VIJAY

RATING:

The master of melody Harris Jeyaraj is back after a short stint and has packed 5 songs in Vishal’s upcomin flick Sathyam. He has struck to his original formula but eventually has tried a few diffferent beats. Let’s see if Harris can live upto his name in this album.

Aaradi Kaatre (Hariharan)

Ah!!! yet another solo song for the hero on the ranges of  “Oru Mugamo” and “Karka Karka”. The song has a low profilic instrumental use that makes this song really appealing with just its rythymic drum beats and occasional guitar strumming. Hariharan on a high after his “Kallai Mattum Kandal” stamps his authority yet again putting his melodious vocals to good effect. A feel good song for the masses. Here comes the hero!!!

Ada Gada Gada (Premgi Gangai Amaren)

Finally Premgi gets a song for his own. A hip and trendy number with a different feel with all the Rap and “Ayi Magamaye,Maye Thirusooli” chants makes it all the more interesting. Premgi’s vocals just blend perfectly with the song and seems much like music to your ears. The lyrics amuse you with their funny lines. Something fresh and trendy from Harris.

Chellame Chellame (Bombay Jayashree,Naveen)

This song has Harris stamped all over it. You can end up associating this track with melodious numbers from harris’s previous albums. Bombay Jeyashree fits the bill with her erotic and heavenly vocals setting on you like sweet poison. Naveen joins the party later and excels at what he does best. Chinese preludes and interludes work well with this song. Although the song has nothing different its melody will surely make u drown harris style. Another chart topper on the blocks.

Ennanbe (Sadhana Sargam)

Another song with chineese preludes, interludes and postludes. Seems much like a faster “Chellame Chellame” track. The “Athadi…” Chorus bit gives a uplift for the otherwise repetitive harris number. Too stereotypical from harris. The lyrics makes the song a perfect romantic treat. The african Chants could have been avoided. Sadhana Sargam mesmerises all of us with this track.

Paal Pappali (Rahul Nambiyar)

Oh my God!!! wat a piece of crap. A kuthu song. Nothing much to say. A total letdown from harris on this number. All Kuthu piriyar’s will like this number. A total disgrace to music these kuthu numbers.

Rajster’s top 3 of the Album:

  1. Chellame Chellame
  2. Aaradi Kaatre
  3. Ada Gada Gada

Rajster’s Verdict:

A lame attempt from a talented melody king. A couple of tracks impress you ,the rest seems all repetitive and bears the “i have heard this before” tag to it. Harris should start experimenting to become more versatile and stop being predictable. A letdown to Harris fans. The master of melody fails to impress!!!

Sathyam-Have i heard this before!!!

KUSELAN-Music Review

MUSIC: G.V.PRAKASH KUMAR

LYRICS: VAALI, PA.VIJAY, YUGABHARATHI, DR.KRIDHAYA

RATING:

GVP has come a long way over the years, but the lack of experience shows up in this album…too many cliche’s and yes he disappoints here…but the “RAJNI” factor will carry the songs and make it a hit among the masses.

Chaaral (Shreya Ghoshal & kids)

A decent song with some great piece of orchestation. Shreya Ghoshal as usual makes an everlasting impression with her charming Vocals. It is definitely a cool number and is worth listening to.

Cinema Cinema (Shankar Mahadevan)

A special song for rajni fans. A very fast number and Shankar Mahadevan does a decent job, but still the orchestration reminds you of some previous hits. Definitely the chorus reminds us of Mudhalvane song. Vaali deserves special praise for the lyrics.

Om Zaarare (Daler Mehndi,Chitra & Sadhana Sargam)

A good tune but Daler fails to impress with this one. Chitra and Sadhana Sargam do justice to this number, but it fails to make an everlasting impact. The lyrics is filled with superstar rajni’s yesteryear hit film names which might go well with superstar fans.

Perinba (Kailash Kher & Prasanna)

No big differences in this song. Hauntingly it is exactly the same as GVP’s first composition “Veyilodu Vilayadi” and the voice of Kailash Kher dosent help either. Prasanna’s voice is soothing and is of great effect. Yugabharathi’s lyrics are really the high point of this song.

Sollamma (Hariharan,Sujatha & Kids)

Really a standout number in this album. Hariharan & Sujatha just make you mesmerise while you hear this song. its refreshing and unique nature makes it stand out in this otherwise average album.

Rajster’s top 3 Songs

  1. Sollamma (Hariharan,Sujatha & Kids)
  2. Chaaral (Shreya Ghoshal & kids)
  3. Perinba (Kailash Kher & Prasanna)-only for its lyrics

Rajster’s Verdict:

On the whole GVP has come out with a mediocre album. He has not  done something really great for  Kuselan. Why GVP??? The songs might eventually go well with superstar fans but not with music lovers. Maybe the trio of Rajni-P.Vasu-Vidyasagar might have come up with a better one. Well only time will tell…
